The Map page is now good to go. I have integrated Kalun’s car finder. Based on your location, it will show [...]]]> So the main design outline is pretty much done. There is still a need for some heavy tweaking, but that will come later. The important thing now is to beef up content a bit.

So, what is car2love? In brief, the site will be an unofficial car2go news site for North America (and any other English speaking cities). [...]]]> Wow. I have had the idea for “car2love” for over 2 months. This evening, I finally sat down and created a simple design, slapped together some code, and began writting content.

So, what is car2love?
In brief, the site will be an unofficial car2go news site for North America (and any other English speaking cities). This will be a venue to communicate information that is either not on the car2go website or poorly explained / hard to find.

Why is it named car2love?
I played around with a few names, but this one is the simplest, and easiest to remember. Also, using “car2go” anywhere in the name is a trademark violation and may cause problems down the road.

What’s the plan?

I have split this up into a few different phases. Each phase will depend on how much time I (or other contributors) have.

Phase 1: Launch website with integrated blog. Pages will include a list of existing cities, and planned cities based on publicly available information. Then a quick break down of the different zones, fleet details, etc. There will also be a FAQ/Tips section (e.g. Did you know you can access any car even tho you have a reservation?). Existing promotions for each city will also be advertised.

Phase 2: Build a map for each city. This has already been accomplished by Kalun @ Kar2Go.me, therefore I will be working with him to advertise his  site and integrate his awesome map and features into the site to some extent.

Phase 3: Integration with the car2go open API. This would allow us to link our user profiles with the data stored on the car2go servers. We could also build maps for each city (generated using the car2go open API) as I find the car2go.com website map difficult to use.

Why do this?
Why not! Car sharing IS the way of the future. Imagine the day when you can drive any care you see sitting on the road. car2go is the first car sharing company to move forward with a free floating model. I think that that this site will give people around the world an opportunity to discuss how car sharing influences them, while focusing on the car2go model.

Why should I visit the site?
Good question. I think that people in general want more information, however this information cannot be found (or is difficult to find) on the convoluted car2go.com website. I believe there are many people who are truly passionate about car2go and a central site is necessary. We need to bring everyone together and showcase not only information about the system itself, but the apps and other cool things people around the world are creating.
